This article explains how to add, share, and manage media items using the My Media page in Kaltura MediaSpace. My Media shows your personal library of all media that you own or manage in Kaltura at the University of Minnesota. My Media can include video and audio recordings, links to YouTube videos, and Kaltura Video Quizzes. Media uploaded to My Media is private and can only be viewed by you.
Note: If you are using media within Canvas, it is almost never necessary to work with MediaSpace. For steps related to Kaltura in Canvas, refer to Canvas: Integrate Media Using Kaltura, Canvas: Upload to and Manage My Media (Kaltura), and Canvas: Add Media Using Kaltura in the Rich Content Editor.

Uploading media
- Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace. Your personal My Media page appears.
- In the top right, select + Create, then Upload.
- Drag and drop one or more files into the box and wait for the progress bar(s) to complete.
- Or, click Select files, then find the file(s) on your computer.
- (Optional during or after upload) Select Edit to rename your upload, add a description, and/or tags.
- Select Save.
Sharing your uploaded media
In order to share uploaded media with others, you must either:
- Add individuals as co-publishers, co-editors, or co-viewers. This will make the media appear in their My Media page in MediaSpace and Canvas. Read more at Kaltura: Manage Video Permissions.
OR - Change its Publish Status. This will allow you to:
- Send a link to others so they can view that media item without logging in to MediaSpace.
- Make the media items appear in a MediaSpace Channel.
Note: If you wish to embed your media item in a Canvas course, follow the steps to Add Media Using Kaltura in the Rich Content Editor.
Adjusting publishing status
Media owners and co-editors:
- Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace. The My Media page appears.
- From your list of videos, select the video in question.
- From the Show Actions dropdown, select Publish Status, then:
- Select Unlisted for sharing individual videos and Save. Then follow the steps below under Getting a sharable link.
- Select Publish. The Publish page appears. Select the checkbox next to channel(s)and then Save changes. For more about channels, refer to Kaltura: Use Channels to Group and Control Access to Media.
Getting a shareable link
Follow these steps to get a shareable link for people to access your media without logging into MediaSpace.
- Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace.
- Choose the video you wish to share by selecting its thumbnail or name.
- Below the video, select Share.
- Under Link to media page, copy the link and paste it wherever your audience will access it.
Editing details and settings for uploaded media
Media owners and co-editors can change details and settings about media they manage from the My Media page.
- Go to My Media.
- The right of the media you wish to change, from the Show Actions menu, select Edit.
- The Edit page appears. Choose the desired tab to make changes, then select Save.
Organizing uploaded media with My Folders
Media owners, co-editors, co-publishers, and co-viewers can organize the contents of their My Media page using My Folders, which appears in the top left of the My Media page. If using a small window on a desktop computer, a mobile device, or a tablet, select Filters to access My Folders.
