Canvas: Upload to and Manage My Media (Kaltura)

The My Media page in Canvas shows your personal library of all media that you own or manage in Kaltura at the University of Minnesota. My Media can include video and audio recordings, links to YouTube videos, and Kaltura Video Quizzes. Media uploaded to My Media is private and can only be viewed by you.

Accessing My Media (Kaltura) in Canvas

  1. Log in to canvas.umn.edu.
  2. Select My Media (Kaltura) from the Account menu.

    • If prompted to authorize Canvas to access your Kaltura account, select Authorize.
  3. Your personal My Media page appears.

Uploading to My Media

  1. Go to My Media.
  2. In the top right, select + Create, then Upload.
  3. Drag and drop one or more files into the box. A progress bar appears as the file uploads.
    • Or, click Select files, then find the file(s) on your computer. 
  4. (Optional during or after upload)
    • Select Edit to rename your upload, add a description, and/or tags.
    • (Optional) To make your uploaded media appear in a Canvas course Media Gallery:
      1. Select Private, then select Publish

      2.  A Publish window opens. Select the checkbox next to the relevant Canvas course(s).
  5. Select Save.

Editing Details and Settings for Uploaded Media

Media owners and co-editors can change details and settings about media they manage from the My Media page.

  1. Go to My Media.
  2. The right of the media you wish to change, from the Show Actions menu, select Edit.
  3. The Edit page appears. Choose the desired tab to make changes, then select Save.

Organizing Uploaded Media with My Folders

Media owners, co-editors, co-publishers, and co-viewers now organize the contents of their My Media page using My Folders, which appears in the top left of the My Media page. If using a small window on a desktop computer, a mobile device, or a tablet, select Filters to access My Folders.
