Easily record your screen and webcam
Screencast-O-Matic is an application for Mac and Windows computers that records screen activity and/or your webcam. You can record a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation, or demonstrate a tool directly from your computer. When you’re finished, you can save the recording to your desktop, then publish the video on your YouTube channel, in a textbox using Kaltura within Canvas or Moodle, in Google Drive, or on another video publishing site.
Note: Students who have suppressed their directory information currently cannot download and use Screencast-O-Matic through the UMN license. When these users try to load the Screencast-O-Matic dashboard where they download the application, they see a blank screen. OIT is working on this issue and we hope to have it resolved soon.
- One click video screen capture and audio recording
- Easy upload directly to Youtube
- Resizable recording window to capture just part of your screen
- Be Mindful About What You Are Recording
Be careful not to record FERPA protected, or HIPAA/Protected Health Information (PHI) data. When the recording interface loads, there is a dashed box that indicates the recording area. This box can be adjusted so that just a portion of the screen is captured.
- Do Not Publish to Screencast-O-Matic.com
The UMN site license does not include storage space on Screencast-O-Matic.com. Be sure to save recordings to your computer by selecting Save As Video File from the Options panel.
