Appropriate Use

  • Effective for the 2025-2026 academic year, the University of Minnesota has implemented age-based restrictions on Google Workspace for Education accounts in order to comply with Google’s Terms of Service. These restrictions are required to ensure compliance with privacy and safety regulations that protect minors when parental consent has not been obtained. Learn how to get and submit a parental consent form.
  • Google Workspace is intended for collaboration on actively used University files and is not intended to be an archive. Avoid using your UMN Google Workspace account for personal files, including photos and videos.
  • After faculty, staff, and students leave the University, their Google Workspace accounts are closed on a timeline determined by their role and affiliation with the Health Care Component. Visit the Leaving the University self-help guide for more information.
