Virtual Private Network (VPN)
The University of Minnesota Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a service that makes it seem (to other websites) as though you are inside the University network when you are on a network outside of the University. It enables a more secure connection to the University network via an encrypted tunnel when you are:
- Using wireless
- Connecting from a non-University Internet Service Provider
- Transmitting sensitive data accessing restricted University resource
To begin using VPN, visit the Downloads & Guides page where you can download a VPN client free of charge and get installation guides.
Through Service Gateway a mid-owner can order a Departmental or LAN-to-LAN (also known as Site-to-Site) VPN.
