Authenticating with Duo

If you have a Wi-Fi or Cellular Connection

If you have a stable connection to Wi-Fi or cellular, you may use the preferred Duo Push method. You can receive push notifications anywhere you are connected to the internet.

If you do not have Wi-Fi or Cellular Connection

If you do not have an internet or cellular connection you can connect using Duo Mobile passcodes (on this page) or a security key/hardware token (on this page)

(Preferred) Using Duo Mobile Passcodes

Follow steps for using Duo Mobile Passcodes.

Using a Security Key or Hardware Token

Alternatively to Duo Mobile passcodes, or as a backup option, you can use a Security Key or hardware token.

(Recommended) Security Key

Rather than using a hardware token, we recommend that those who live internationally purchase a Security Key or use another authentication option.

Hardware Token

Important: Technology Help is not able to ship Duo hardware tokens internationally.

If you are staff or faculty, work with your department to determine if they are able to mail a hardware token to you following the below steps to request a Duo hardware token from outside of the United States:

  1. Contact your departmental supervisor for their approval.
    • Your department will be responsible for mailing the hardware token to you internationally and any associated shipping costs.
  2. After receiving your supervisor's approval, prepare a valid form of photo ID and contact Technology Help.
  3. Once your request has been processed, the token will be sent to your departmental supervisor. Your department can then mail the hardware token to you.
