Office of Information Technology (OIT) hosted network printers can be installed on Macintosh computers through Self Service or manually through System Settings. Access to a printer requires supervisor approval. To request access, fill out and submit the Printer Access Request form.

Request Access to a Printer
Complete the Printer Access Request form to gain access to a network printer. Contact Technology Help if you need assistance with one of the following situations:
- The person who needs access to the printer does not populate into the request form
- The printer you are looking for is not listed in the request form
- Adding a large group, department or unit to a printer
Install a Network Printer using Self Service (Preferred Method)
The preferred method for installing network printers on OIT managed computers is through the Self Service application. Most printers are available for installation through Self Service. After your request for access to a printer has been approved, follow these installation instructions:
- Open Self Service using one of these methods.
- From the application's icon
on The Dock - From within the Launchpad
(found on The Dock) - Applications folder: Open the Finder
and then open Applications
- From the application's icon
- On the Self Service home page, in the vertical menu on the left side, open the Catalog menu item.
- Click on Printing in the list of Categories on the Catalog page.
- Click Install on any printers that you'd like to have installed on this computer.
Note: if you do not see the printer you need installed, it may not be available in Self Service. Contact Technology Help for assistance.

Manually Install a Network Printer
Printers that are not available for installation in Self Service, or will be used on personal computers, will need to be installed manually.
Required:
- Administrator access (local admin or Make Me Admin)
- The printer's Hostname or IP Address
- Printer driver (if not already installed on computer)
If you do not have these required items, contact Technology Help.
Installing the Printer
- Log in with the local administrator account or elevate privileges with Make Me Admin.
- From the Apple menu, click on System Settings.
- Choose Printers & Scanners.

- In Printers & Scanners, click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax... button.
- On the Add Printer window click the IP button.
- Fill in the fields with your printer's information.

- Address: Hostname or IP Address of the printer. Always try to use the Hostname first.
- Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP. Switch to Line Printer Daemon - LPD if you encounter issues during installation or printing.
- Queue: Leave blank.
- Name: The Name field will populate with what is in the Address field. You can leave as is or change it.
- Location: The location of the printer.
- Use: This field will show the printer (driver) that will be used after it has been selected. Continue to Step 7 for the instructions.
- Click the Use field dropdown menu.
- In the dropdown menu, choose Select Software.
- On the Printer Software window, search for the printer (driver) you need to install.
- Select the printer from the list and click OK.
Note: If the printer (driver) is not listed after the search, the driver will need to be manually installed. Locate the driver on the manufacturer's website and download it following their instructions. The installation will require administrator access. Contact Technology Help for assistance.

You will return to the Add Printer window with the User field populated with the printer. - Click the Add button to complete the installation.

- After installation completes send a test page to the printer.
- On the Printers & Scanners window, double-click on the printer to open the Print Center.
- Verify the new printer is selected.
- Click Printer on the menu bar and then Print Test Page.
- To make this printer the default, click on Printer again and select Make Default.
