In TDX, a tag is a keyword or label attached to various knowledge base (KB) articles. It allows users to categorize or filter knowledge base articles during a search. Tags are essential for searches and should be used in all KB articles.
In this article:
Why use tags
Proper tagging helps with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), so relevant information can be found efficiently. Regarding the weight in search of a KB article, the title has the highest weight and the tags are second to that. You can read more about this in the Search in TDX article.
Adding a tag to a KB article
- Open the KB article you wish to add tags to in TDX, and navigate to the Edit Article button
- Click on the Settings

- Find the Tags field and enter relevant tags
- Multiple tags can be added to an article. The drop down menu in the tags field suggests tags that have been used before. You can add a new tag if you wish.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Save button
Best practices when adding tags
When adding tags, make sure you employ the following practices to optimize the search process:
- Employ good practices with Titles and Categories to help readers find the article
- After the article is approved, double-check if the article appears in search results and adjust tags as needed.
- In TDX - tags are single words or you can use hyphens (-) between words.
- Example: Instead of TDX Knowledge or Duo Mobile, use the tag TDX-knowledge or Duo-mobile
- Add tags with any possible alternative wording for the technologies mentioned in the article.
- Example: Using both KB and Knowledge-Base as tags in a relevant article.
- Alternative wording includes tags for technologies with two words
- Example: Using both Targetprocess and Target-process or Target and process as tags
- If needed, add the main technology being mentioned in the article as a tag then add any other relevant technologies.
- Example: An article on using Drupal to edit links with 404 errors should have a Drupal tag and a 404 error tag.
