Schedule a Recycling Pick-up with OIT

There are several ways you can get help recycling devices in your department. OIT, UMN ReUse and the University's recycling vendor, Dynamic Recycling, have solutions in place to dispose of electronic waste and to ensure that assets leaving the University are properly sanitized.

Recycling Options for Departments

Departments supported by Desktop Support can have computers, computer equipment, and printers processed for recycling. Departments not supported by Desktop Support can contact ReUse for bin pick ups.

Note: Media Sanitization Standards should be followed by the department before sending material to ReUse.

  • All Health Component and High Security computers (Identifying Security Level) MUST be picked up by Desktop Support for processing. Email [email protected] to request service.
  • Desktop Support will pick up old equipment during new computer deployments as well as small amounts of equipment (1-2 computers, monitors, box of peripherals, etc) when requested by email to [email protected].
  • All other computer equipment pick ups should go through ReUse. To request service, contact them at [email protected].
    • Examples of appropriate requests to ReUse include:
      • Recycling bin pick ups and drop offs
      • Non-health component/non-high security equipment that is more than 2 pieces of equipment
      • Large-scale items, such as printer/copiers

Return Equipment to the Department

You can choose to return a computer to your department in situations where it will be reused within the unit.

  • OIT will hold the computer and or the data for two weeks.
  • The computer is re-imaged by OIT and returned to a designated departmental contact.

Recycling Pick up through the UMN ReUse Program

Your recycling can be picked up regularly by the UMN ReUse Program at several Twin Cities campus locations, please email [email protected] to schedule a pick up. Details on pick up locations can be found in the ReUse Routes guide.

  • ReUse removes the hard drive from each device, documents the serial number in the TDX Asset record and destroys hard drives on site.
  • Details about the ReUse program, including contact info and what items they can accept can be found in the Reuse Program Self-Help Guide.
  • If you have recycling needs and are unsure who you are supported by or the security level of your computer, please contact Technology Help to find out and get help with your computer recycling.
