Note: Certain Departmental Pools, Full Tunnel VPN, and Split Tunnel VPN Pools require multi-factor authentication (MFA) through Duo Security to connect.

Connecting to Secure Client VPN on Android
To connect to UMN VPN using the Cisco Secure Client app, follow the steps below. If you need to download the client, visit Install Secure Client VPN for iOS and Android Devices first and install Secure Client before connecting.
- Search for and open the Cisco Secure Client (formerly AnyConnect) app.
- Tap Connections and select the appropriate entry.
- UMN - Split Tunnel - General Access VPN Pool - For most UMN VPN needs, including shared drive access.
- AnyConnect-UofMvpnFull - Uses a UMN IP address for the entirety of connection.
- UMN - Departmental Pools - Your department may require use of their VPN Pool.
- For full explanations of the connection types see the VPN Access Types on the VPN Technology Page. Most UMN VPN needs are met by Split Tunnel or Full Tunnel.
- Toggle AnyConnect VPN button to ON.
- For Departmental Pools, tap the Group menu and select the appropriate VPN Pool.
- Enter your Internet ID and password, in the Authentication window.
- Tap Connect. A Duo Security push will automatically be sent to your default Duo device.
- To use any other method (e.g., call me, passcode) for Duo authentication, use Duo Append Mode.
- Approve the Duo Login Request.
- Verify that the status line says Connected.
- You are connected.
- To disconnect, toggle Secure Client VPN button to OFF.
Connecting to Secure Client VPN on iOS
This section will assist you in configuring and connecting to the University VPN on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch using the native iOS VPN Appliaction.
- From the Home Page, tap to open the Settings application.
- In the Settings application, navigate to the General menu and tap to open.
- In the General menu, navigate to the VPN sub-menu and tap to open.
- If the VPN Profile has not configure complete the configuration as outlined in step 4.
- To add the University VPN Profile, tap Add VPN Configuration.., and complete as listed below.
- Type: IPSec
- Description: UofMVPN
- Server: tc-vpn-1.umn.edu
- Account: Your Internet ID
- Group Name: UofMvpn
- Secret: S3cur1ty!
- Then tap Done, to save the VPN Profile.
- To connect VPN Profile, navigate to the Settings application and tap to open.
- In the Settings Application, navigate to the VPN menu and toggle the radio dial to connect.
- Type your Internet ID password when prompted to authenticate for your VPN connection.
