Kaltura: Manage Video Permissions

Each media item (video/audio recording, Kaltura Video Quiz, or link to YouTube video) in Kaltura in Canvas or MediaSpace has an owner. As the media owner, set permissions to collaborate with other users.

Adding a Collaborator to Existing Media

  1. As the owner of video/media in Kaltura, go to My Media using one of these two options:
    1. Log in to Canvas, then from the Account menu, select My Media (Kaltura).
    2. Log in to MediaSpace
  2. Your personal My Media page appears. To the right of the media you wish to change, from the  Show Actions menu select Edit.
  3. The Edit page appears. Select the Roles & permissions tab.
    1. From + Add Users, select Collaborators. The Add Collaborators popup appears.
    2. In the Select users field, enter a username in the format [email protected]; do not include campus-specific domains, e.g., [email protected]. Select the username in the menu that appears.
      • Note: If you cannot find a user in My Media in Canvas, ask that person to go to canvas.umn.edu > Account menu > My Media (Kaltura) which will initialize their account. If you cannot find a user in MediaSpace, ask that person to go to mediaspace.umn.edu and log in which will initialize their account.
    3. Select the checkbox(es) for the desired permissions.
    4. Select Add. The Roles & permissions tab updates to include the user you added.

Changing Existing Permissions or Media Owner

As the media owner, you may change existing permissions or transfer ownership to someone else. 

  1. On your My Media page, to the right of the media you wish to change, from the  Show Actions menu select Edit.
  2. The Edit page appears. Select the Roles & permissions tab.
  3. To the right of the user, from the  Actions menu, select an option:
    • Edit user permissions to show the Edit user popup. Select the checkbox(es) for the desired permissions, then select Update. The user list updates to reflect your changes.
    • Remove user to show the Remove user popup. Select Delete. The user list updates with that user removed.
    • Set as media owner to show the Set as media owner popup. Consider checking the checkbox for Make myself a collaborator to retain access after the ownership change. Then select Transfer ownership. The user list updates to reflect the ownership change.
