Versions

Standard

Windows Server 2025 Standard supports the following features and use cases:

  • Environments: Physical servers or environments with limited virtualization needs
  • Virtualization rights: 2 virtual machines plus one Hyper-V host per license
  • Best for: Small to medium deployments, specific workloads, cost-conscious environments

Datacenter

Windows Server 2025 Datacenter supports the following features and use cases:

  • Environments: Highly virtualized environments and cloud scenarios
  • Virtualization rights: Unlimited virtual machines plus one Hyper-V host per license
  • Best for: Large datacenters, cloud deployments, extensive virtualization

Availability

Anyone hosting Windows Server 2025 Standard or Datacenter must comply with University IT policies. It is mainly intended for purchase by IT groups.

Each user accessing a service hosted on Windows Server 2025 Standard or Datacenter must have a Client Access License (CAL). CALs are available for the following account types:

Getting Access

Access to software licensed by the University is based on University affiliation and sometimes the device on which the software is installed.

It is your responsibility to make sure you are using the software in accordance with the University's Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources policy and software terms and conditions, plus any vendor terms listed below.
