Instructions for Departments, Employees, and Students

Departments, employees, and students can download more than 100 free education software titles from Autodesk as long as the software is used for UMN learning, teaching, training, and research and development. Follow the instructions below.

Employees who are interested in other Autodesk software titles may also contact our current reseller, CDW-G. For information about pricing and availability contact Matt Lubawski with CDW-G.

    Create an Account

If you don't already have an Autodesk education account, you need to set one up before obtaining software.

    1. Select the title of the software you want on the Free Software page.
    2. Select the Create Account button. See a screenshot on the Create an Account for Students & Educators page.
    3. Fill out the form fields.
      • If you are a collegiate or departmental IT administrator who wants to manage the Autodesk software for your faculty and staff, enter a collegiate or departmental email address. Do not use a personal account for the Autodesk ID, since this sign-in can be used by other administrators from our institution.
      • If you are an employee or student who wants to download software for installation on your personal device, enter your UMN email address.
    4. Select the checkbox to accept the Terms of Use. OIT requested changes to these terms and Autodesk keeps a T&C amendment side letter on file for the University of Minnesota, so you can accept the terms and do not have to obtain a review from the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).
    5. Select the Create Account button.

    Download the Software

Follow the instructions on the Download and Install page.

If you are a collegiate or departmental IT administrator and want us to publish information about your ARC agreement, such as how people in your college or department can obtain the software, please email [email protected].

Note to Facilities Management and Administrative Users

You should have migrated off of our previous license and entered into a new license direct with Autodesk through CDW-G. If you have not done so contact Matt Lubawski with CDW-G to acquire licenses.
