Training Guide: Preventing and Responding To Sexual Misconduct

In spring 2017, the University of Minnesota launched the President's Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct (PIPSM). This required training for all faculty and staff systemwide is one key element of PIPSM.

This guide will walk you through taking the training.

Preparing to take the training

  • This training works best on a computer using Chrome or Firefox. It is not designed to work on a mobile device such as a phone or tablet.
  • The training includes audio. You can use headsets, earbuds, or computer speakers. Closed captioning is also available.
  • The training will take at least 60 minutes to complete, but may take longer depending on the individual and the number of optional resources you view. 
  • You can complete the training in one sitting, or pause and come back to it later as long as you fully complete it by the due date.

Finding the training

  1. Go to your My Training page in the Training Hub.
  2. Find the Preventing and Responding To Sexual Misconduct course.
    1. Click View Details on the right.
    2. Scroll down and click Launch Canvas Course. This takes you to the Canvas course site that houses the training module.
      Note: If you do not see the course listed on your My Training page, you have not yet been assigned the training, and do not need to complete it now. You will receive an email when you are assigned the training.
  3. Accept the Canvas terms of service, if necessary.
    1. If you have never accessed Canvas before, you will be prompted to agree to the updated Canvas terms of service.
    2. Check the checkbox next to I agree to the Terms of Service and click Submit.

    3. The training home page launches.

Taking the training

  1. Watch the 2-minute introductory video on the homepage of the training course site.
    Note: if you do not see the video, you will need to switch to a different browser or enable on third party cookies.
    • If necessary, click the play button to begin playing the video.

    • You can also expand the video to full screen and turn on Closed Captions.
    • View the entire video.
  2. Launch the training module.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the page.

    • Click the link for Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (for Employees or Supervisors). A separate page opens.

    • Click the button to Load Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (for Employees or Supervisors) in a new window. The training opens in a new browser tab.
    • Note: You do not need to log in again. f you see a prompt to log in to Everfi, your browser is not configured correctly. You will need to switch to a different browser (Chrome or Firefox) and enable on third party cookies. If you continue to see the login screen, contact Technology Help.
  3. View the entire training module.
    Note: You do not need to view the entire training module in one sitting. You can stop at any point. When you come back to the training, you will start again at the page with the video, but when you relaunch the training module, it will start exactly where you left off. No progress will be lost.
    • On most slides, there will be a NEXT button in the lower right.

    • The module is finished when you reach the Course Complete page. You may print a certificate of your completion if you desire.
      Note: Your completion will NOT be recorded unless you follow the directions below for Recording your training completion.

Getting back into the training

You can pause and come back to the training later as long as you fully complete it by the due date.

  1. Go to your My Training page in the Training Hub.
  2. Find the Preventing and Responding To Sexual Misconduct course.
    1. Click View Details on the right.
    2. Scroll down and click Launch Canvas Course.
  3. The launch button takes you to the Canvas course site. You will need to navigate back into the separate training module. Your progress in this separate module is saved, and it will launch at the point you left off.

    2. Click the link for Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (for Employees or Supervisors). A separate page opens.

    3. Click the button to Load Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct  (for Employees or Supervisors) in a new window. The training opens in a new browser tab at the point where you left off.
  4. The module is finished when you reach the Course Complete page. You may print a certificate of your completion if you desire.
    Note: Your completion will NOT be recorded unless you follow the directions below.

Recording your training completion

  1. After you have gone through the entire training module and reached the Course Complete page, click Exit in the upper right.

  2. You will see a Thank You page. Close the browser tab for the Thank You page.

  3. You should be returned to the training course site. Scroll down and click Next in the lower right.

  4. The Training Completion page loads showing you are done with the training and your completion has been logged.

Verifying your training is complete

If you are unsure whether your training has been marked as complete, you can return to the training site at any time to verify your completion has been recorded.

  1. Go to your My Training page in the Training Hub.
  2. Find the Preventing and Responding To Sexual Misconduct course.
    1. Click View Details on the right.
    2. Scroll down and click Launch Canvas Course. This takes you to the Canvas course site that houses the training module.
  3. Click Modules in the upper left.
  4. If there is a green checkmark next to the Complete Course item at the bottom, you have fully completed the training.

  5. If there is no green checkmark next to Complete Course, but there is one on the Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct for Employees:
    1. You need to click on the Complete Course link to report your training completion.
    2. Once you see "Your completion has been logged," you are done.Training site with message stating "Your completion has been logged."
  6. If there are no green checkmarks on this page:
    1. You haven't completed the training or your completion wasn't accurately recorded.
    2. You need to click on the Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (for Employees or Supervisors) link and complete that stand-alone portion, then proceed on to the Complete Course link.
      1. If this page loads immediately, click Review. (Be very careful not to click Retake.)

        1. Click Exit in the upper right, Yes, and then OK.
        2. Close down the tab the training launched in.
      3. You should now be back at the training launch page.
        1. Scroll down and click Next.
