When attempting to access a Kaltura MediaSpace video, you may get an error stating "Access Denied: Sorry, you cannot access this page."
Example image of an access denied error:
There are two possible reasons that this error is occurring:
- The owner of the video does not have the video share setting appropriately set.
- The video link points to the video's edit page instead of the video's view page.
In both of these instances, contact the owner of the video (e.g. person who sent you the video link) and send them a link to this article so that they can fix this issue. Only video owners/co-owners can change the sharing settings.
Updating the File Share Settings
The video owner may need to update the file sharing settings to Unlisted so that viewers can access the video. Refer to Adjusting Video Permissions for step-by-step instructions
Possible Workaround for the Viewer of the Video
The link to the video should include the word media and not the word edit. A viewer of the video can replace the word edit in the URL with media and try accessing the video again.
- Correct: https://mediaspace.umn.edu/media/1_ainc9vcm
- Incorrect: https://mediaspace.umn.edu/edit/1_ainc9vcm
Note: If this quick fix works for you, please still contact the person who sent you the video link and communicate the link they shared is incorrect. For directions on sharing the correct media link, refer to Getting a Shareable Link.
