This article explains how to set up the Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) with Turnitin. CPF is for instructors who would like to receive a Turnitin similarity report on their student submissions while continuing to use Canvas's built-in tools for rubrics, feedback, peer review, SpeedGrader and scoring. Using Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) with Turnitin
To configure an assignment with the CPF instructors can follow these steps.
- Create a new assignment in Canvas.
- Select Online for the Submission Type.
- Choose either Text Entry or File Upload.
- Text Entry allows students to free type their response directly into Canvas.
- File Upload allows students to upload a file such as .doc, .docx, and .pdf to the assignment.
- For Plagiarism Review select Turnitin-Plagiarism Framework.
- Select the desired Turnitin settings including if to store the submission in a repository, what to compare the student submission against, and how quickly students are able to see the similarity report.
- Adjust other settings, such as available date and due date.
- Save the Assignment.
View results through CPF as an instructor
To view the similarity report as the instructor the following steps can be taken.
- Open the speedgrader for the assignment.
- Click on the percentage next to the file name on the side panel to open the feedback studio.
- Select the percentage on the right side to see where the paper was matched and by what percentage.
View results through CPF as a student
If you set up CPF to allow students to view the report, share the following information with your students so they can review their own report.
- Visit the course site.
- Select Grades from the left navigation menu.
- Select the assignment.
- Click on the percentage field to open the Feedback Studio.
- Select the percentage on the right side to see where the paper was matched and by what percentage.
