SAS OnDemand for Academics for students includes:

  • SAS/STAT® – State-of-the-art statistical software.
  • Base SAS® – Flexible, extensible fourth-generation programming language for data access, transformation and reporting.
  • SAS/IML® – Interactive matrix programming and exploratory data analysis.
  • SAS/OR® – Enhanced operations research methods for optimizing processes and addressing management science challenges.
  • SAS/QC® – Tools for statistical quality improvement.
  • SAS/ETS® – Model, forecast and simulate processes with econometric and time series analysis.

Getting Access

Access to software licensed by the University is based on University affiliation and sometimes the device on which the software is installed.

It is your responsibility to make sure you are using the software in accordance with the University's Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources policy and software terms and conditions, plus any vendor terms listed below.

 Discounted price for UMN collegiate units. No charge for those eligible in those units.

License Details

Participating College/Units 

The following collegiate units have SPSS license that cover all devices owned by their college.

  • CFANS  (2026 license)
  • School of Public Health  (2026 license)
  • Academic Clinical Affairs (2026 license)
  • Psychiatry (2026 license)
Pricing
  • Single licenses are available for $75.00 for individuals in a department.
  • Collegiate-wide licenses are available for $4800.00.
  • Students get software directly from the vendor.
System Requirements
  • Make sure your operating system supports running SAS.
  • Make sure you have enough space on your computer: SAS uses approximately 20 GB of disk space depending on options selected but up to 40 GB disk space is needed during installation, for downloaded files and the SAS Depot.
License Notes
  • Know that your license expires on November 30, regardless of when you purchase it.
  • SAS continues working with warning notices in a grace period beyond November 30 which will allow student use of SAS through the end of Fall semester.

Terms and Conditions

  • UMN's SAS license is only intended for teaching, learning and research use.
    • For example, if student or instructor uses the school's real data to find patterns and warning signs of why students might leave school before graduation only to understand what is possible to predict, it is an academic use.
    • If an admissions or student retention office takes any action on the data, it is an administrative use.
    • If an instructor provides results of a student satisfaction survey to their current students for analysis, it is an academic use, but if instructors use those results to change their approach in the classroom, that is now administrative use.
  • This software runs off of a license code. This license code expires in February of every year, and will not be tied to your actual license with OIT Software Licensing.
  • This software can be installed on up to two computers that are used by the licensee as long as the software is not running on both computers at the same time.

  • Faculty and staff can purchase this software for use on their personal computers directly from SAS.
  • If you need to use this software exclusively for UMN teaching, learning, or research and you want to install it on a personally-owned device, follow the steps for faculty and staff on University-managed devices above.
