Update Your Duo Mobile App to Keep Push Notifications Working
To avoid login interruptions, the Office of Information Technology recommends that everyone updates the Duo Mobile app on their phone or tablet to the minimum supported version 4.85 or higher by Feb. 2, 2026. The current, newest version available in the app store is 4.105. Older versions of Duo Mobile may stop receiving push notifications, which could prevent access to services like University email, Canvas, and MyU.
What to do
- Update Duo Mobile in the Apple App Store or Google Play to version 4.85 or later.
- Make sure notifications are enabled for Duo Mobile. If push notifications don’t work after Feb. 2, open the app, verify your version, and check your phone’s notification settings.
- If your device cannot update, you can still use Duo Mobile passcodes or another authentication method.
How to check your installed Duo Mobile version
Use these instructions to see what version you have. The app store reflects the latest version available to download which may not reflect which version you have installed.
- Open the Duo Mobile app.
- Tap the three-line menu icon ( ) in the upper-left corner.
- Scroll to the bottom — the version number will be displayed there.
Note on numbering: Duo Mobile uses semantic versioning — versions above 4.99 (like 4.100+) are newer even though numerically they look smaller than 5.0.0 (per semantic rules). The newest version of Duo is 4.105. The oldest version permitted that will still work effectively is 4.85.
How to update
If your Duo Mobile version is below 4.85, update it through your app store.
- Open the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) on your phone.
- Search for Duo Mobile.
- Tap Update next to the app.
- Note: If it says Open instead of Update, please restart your device and check again.
Enable automatic updates
Updating your apps regularly is one of the simplest ways to protect your device. We recommend enabling automatic updates to keep Duo Mobile and other apps current to safeguard your device and maintain secure access.
