Preparing for Your Video Recording
Scheduling a Recording
- To schedule a recording session, email us at [email protected]. We will setup a brief Zoom meeting to discuss your project.
- Once scheduled, you will receive a Google Calendar invite at your UMN email address. Acceptance of the meeting invitation is required to confirm the booking. Unconfirmed invitations are automatically released to help maintain accurate scheduling.
- If you need to cancel or reschedule, let us know at least 48 hours in advance.
- Please note that on-campus recording sessions are by appointment only. Because our team primarily works remotely, advance scheduling is required to ensure staff availability and equipment setup for your session.
Studio Location & Parking
- Hubert H. Humphrey Center - Room 281
- Parking available at 19th Ave and 21st Ave parking ramps.
What to Wear
- Avoid tight patterns or green clothing—these can cause issues with our green screen setup.
- Dark, solid colors generally look best on camera.
- We recommend bringing a water bottle; there is a bottle-filling station near the studio.
Editing & Turnaround
Review Process: After your session, you will receive a rough edit for review. To ensure precise changes, please compile your feedback into an edit list using specific timecodes. Once we receive your feedback, we will finalize and deliver the completed video
Timeline: The typical turnaround time for edits is one week from the recording date. During peak high-demand periods, this may extend to up to two weeks.
Accessing Your Videos
Option 1: YouTube Channel
- We create a YouTube channel, upload your final edited videos and provide you with access.
- You can embed Youtube video video links in your Canvas course.
Option 2: Kaltura Mediaspace
- We provide a Google Drive folder with the final edits.
- You must upload the videos to your mediaspace.umn.edu account.
- You will then need to embed the mediaspace links in your Canvas course.
ATSS will keep a copy of your videos for one year from the date of project completion. Due to storage limitations we are unable to store the raw footage.
Accessibility
ATSS pays for ADA-compliant captioning through Rev.com. Please note that the video edit must be fully approved and finalized before we submit it for captioning.
- YouTube: Captions will be automatically uploaded.
- Kaltura: Caption files will be included in the Google Drive folder. You must upload both the video and caption files to your Canvas course.
Per ADA Title II & Web Accessibility, videos should be audio-described. Please describe what is happening onscreen while filming your videos so students with visual impairments can still understand the pertinent content.
Systemwide Availability & Travel Policy
Video production services are available to faculty and instructional staff across all five UMN campuses.
A minimum of two full days of scheduled recording is required to ensure travel efficiency and the effective use of production resources. We ask that sufficient content be planned in advance to maximize our on-site production time
