Wired Network: Speed and Duplex Settings
Auto-negotiation is a process in which equipment attached to the network shares information about their communication capabilities, automatically configuring the equipment to function at the maximum mutual transmission level.
The University's network equipment uses the auto-negotiation process. These network devices negotiate configurations with attached devices. Many computers are also equipped to use auto-negotiation. By utilizing the auto-negotiation process, both computers and the network they are attached to are much easier to maintain. OIT has tested the viability of auto-negotiation and determined that auto-negotiation is a University network standard.
