Wide Area Network: BOREAS Net

The University of Minnesota has partnered with three other major research institutions (Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison) to create BOREAS-Net (Broadband Optical Research, Education, and Science Network). BOREAS-Net is a 1,500-mile ring of university-owned fiber that extends as far as Chicago and Kansas City and connects the institutions on BOREAS-Net to Internet2 and other research and education networks.

The participating universities believe this innovative new network gives their researchers an edge in competing for top faculty members and for research grants. For more information about the BOREAS Net, visit www.boreas.net.
