Targetprocess: View Iteration Capacity, Velocity, and Available Effort

During PI planning, teams should be aware of their capacity, velocity, and available effort for the upcoming PI.

Viewing Capacity, Velocity, and Available Effort

1. Navigate to the Iteration Planning view.
   • Expand Teams, then Team Overview, then select Iteration Planning from the left navigation menu.
2. Filter by the appropriate Portfolio and Team.
   • Refer to Filtering the Content of a View or Folder for instructions.
3. The first column in the Iteration Planning view is the Backlog of stories for the team.
4. The columns to the right of the Backlog are the upcoming iterations. 
5. Expand an Iteration if necessary to view three lines of information in the header row:
   1. The first line has the iteration number (unique identifier) and the iteration name.
      • Example: 682 FY23 PI1.7
   2. The second line has the start and end date of the iteration.
   3. The third line has the team's total Effort (the sum of all the Story Points in the Iteration) and Velocity.
      • Example: 5 of 8 assigned. Meaning there are a total of 5 Story points in all the Stories in the Iteration, and the team has a Velocity of 8 for the iteration.
