Epics are entities that represent large scale work.
Epics can be created by Release Train Engineers (RTE) as well as Product Managers (PM), or by Product Owners (PO) in consultation with their RTE or PM.
There are two types of Epics in our instance of Targetprocess: ART Epics and Portfolio Epics.
ART Epics represent large scale work that spans more than one Planning Interval (PI). Despite the name, ART Epics are available for individual Agile teams, as well as teams that are in Agile Release Trains (ART). Work that spans multiple ARTs in addition to multiple PIs would also be considered ART Epics.
Portfolio Epics are Epics that typically involve more than one ART, and fulfill at least one of the following Epic thresholds:
- Work that takes 50% or more of an ART's capacity for more than two Planning Intervals
- Have a cost estimation of $1million or more
- Affects all students and/or staff
