Scaled Agile: ART Events Overview

With SAFe®, Agile teams are organized into Agile Release Trains, or ARTs, that bring together people working on related products and services. This article describes the meetings, or events, that an ART holds at the beginning and end of each Program Increment (PI). For information on the Agile team meetings held during each Iteration, see Team Meetings Overview.

ART Events

Calendar showing System Demo, Inspect & Adapt, and PI Planning events every 10-14 weeks, with Iteration meeting cycling every two weeks in between the ART events.

PI Planning

Planning Interval, or PI Planning, is a multi-day event where all teams in an ART use the direction provided by Business Owners and Product Managers to plan the work for the next PI.

System Demo

In the System Demo, the entire ART presents accomplishments to each other and any stakeholders. This event is an integrated demonstration of progress and the value of the work achieved across all the teams.

Inspect and Adapt

During this event, held at the end of each Planning Interval (PI), teams evaluate the current state of their planned work as well as the process used to get it there.
