PagerDuty incidents are generated automatically through monitoring integrations, manually via the web app or slack, and can automatically group related alerts to minimize noise. Once triggered, incidents notify designated responders across various communication channels following escalation policies until they are acknowledged, investigated, and resolved. To ensure effective response, on-call engineers should acknowledge alerts and/or escalate as needed.
