Oracle: Export and Import SQL Developer Connections

SQL Developer is used to connect to Oracle databases.

Exporting SQL Developer Connections

  1. Expand the Connections Pane (typically on the left side of the application)
  2. Once the Connection pane is open, right click on Oracle Connections (or any other element in the pane) and choose Export ConnectionsRight click menu with options for New Connection | Import Connections | Export Connections | Create Local Connections
  3. Select all Connections to be exported by checking the top Connections box, or choose/unselect individual Connections from the displayed list.
  4. Once you have your selections correct, click Next.

  5. Provide a file name and location for the exported Connections to be saved. Use the Browse button to specify the location and file name.
  6. Once you set the file name and location as desired, click Next.
  7. Set up Password Handling:
    • ​​​Passwords can be saved as part of the export, though it is recommended to not include them. By default, Remove all passwords from exported connections is selected.
    • If you optionally select Encrypt all passwords with a key, you need to provide a key to encrypt the passwords with. You will use this key again later in the import process.
  8. Click Next when you are ready to move on.
  9. The final step is to confirm your selections. If all looks good, click Finish. Otherwise, use the Back button to change whatever may be incorrect.Example results Summary page of the export process. Finish button highlighted

Importing SQL Developer Connections

  1. Expand the Connections pane (typically on the left side of the application)
  2. Once the Connection pane is open, right click on Oracle Connections (or any other element in the pane) and choose Import ConnectionsRight click menu with options for New Connection | Import Connections | Export Connections | Create Local Connections
  3. Provide a file name and location for the exported Connections previously saved. You can use the Browse button to choose the location and file name.
  4. Once you have selected the desired file, click Next.
  5. Set up Password Handling:
    • (Preferred option) Select to Remove all passwords from the exported connections.
    • If you provided an encryption key to encrypt the passwords during the export step, select Use a key to decrypt all passwords and re-enter the same key in the Encryption Key field when importing.
  6. Once you select the import option for Password Handling, click Next.
  7. Next, you can select all Connections to be imported by checking the top box, or choose/unselect individual Connections from the displayed list.
  8. You also have the option to Rename or Replace any duplicate connections as a result of the import.
  9. Once you have your selections correct, click Next.
