INCM: LEAP

CSE-IT manages the LEAP (Learning Assessment and Engagement Platform) tool , used by instructors in the college to add complex mathematics-based problems to Canvas courses. Students access LEAP via their Canvas course link. Instructors access their LEAP courses via https://leap.cse.umn.edu/courses. Assignments provided in LEAP are authored using the DoenetML language, developed as part of the Doenet research project.

Common Issues/Symptoms

Troubleshooting

Caller does not know how to enter a response in LEAP

Scoring questions related to submitted assignments

  • Request the name of the assignment, the course and section number, and a screenshot of the Results page, including the problem (or problems) in question
  • If the screenshot of the Results page shows a grey button next to the answer blank for the question, then it is most likely that the caller forgot to click the submit button on that question. Refer caller to the LEAP student guide and request that they complete another attempt on the assignment.
  • If the screenshot of the Results page does not show a grey button next to the answer blank for the question, if it is ambiguous, or if a screenshot is not provided, escalate to CSE Instructional Technology

Instructor does not know how to find their courses page


Caller receives the "419 Page Expired" or "431: Request Header Fields Too Large" error message


Caller cannot load an assignment

  • Request the device used
    • If mobile device, suggest caller attempt the assignment on a laptop or PC
  • Request the assignment URL and a screenshot of the view that occurs when they click on the assignment link
    • If the screenshot shows a light-blue banner at the top with the message "Initializing…" escalate to CSE Instructional Technology
    • If the screenshot shows the error message "431: Request Header Fields Too Large" refer user to Refer caller to UMN Cookie Cutter website to clear their UMN cookies
    • All other situations should be escalated to CSE Web
