UMN Google Shared Drives are considered abandoned if either of the following are true:
- No members of the Shared Drive have an active UMN Google account; and/or
- No members of the Shared Drive with active UMN Google accounts have been assigned the Shared Drive Manager role.
Follow these instructions to first view the list of the abandoned Shared Drives you are eligible to claim and then claim drives you wish to keep.
Viewing Shared Drives You Are Eligible to Claim
- Access the Shared Drive Reclamation Form
- If prompted, sign in using your UMN internet ID and password
- From the Choose your Resource Responsibility Center (Campus, College, or Office) drop-down, select an RRC
- If you are unsure what to select, refer to RRCs
- Open the Choose the Shared Drive you wish to claim drop-down to view the list of abandoned shared drives you are eligible to claim
- Be sure to review hidden Shared Drives
- If you wish to claim a Shared Drive, continue to step 3 of Claiming a Shared Drive
Claiming a Shared Drive
- Access the Shared Drive Reclamation Form
- If prompted, sign in using your UMN internet ID and password
- From the Choose your Resource Responsibility Center (Campus, College, or Office) drop-down, select an RRC
- If you are unsure what to select, refer to RRCs
- From the Choose the Shared Drive you wish to claim drop-down, select a Shared Drive
- If you want to claim more than one Shared Drive, you will need to complete the form for each one
- Be sure to review hidden Shared Drives
- In the Purpose for claiming manager rights for this shared drive field, provide a brief reason for claiming the drive
- Reclaim Shared Drive
- The form may take a few moments to submit, do not reload the page
- A Confirmation screen should appear
- To repeat the process for any other drives you wish to keep, select Return to Form
Note: If multiple people are eligible to claim the same Shared Drive, the Manager role will be assigned to the first person to complete the claim form.
