License use:

Licenses in a CrashPlan organization are only considered used when an account user has started a backup.  This means there can be more accounts in an organization than licenses allocated for that group.  Once the number of licenses is used up for the organization the next attempt to start a backup by a new user will denied.  Contact Rae Johnson ([email protected]) in CSE-IT in the event you need to purchase more licenses.

Users that have been deleted from an organization from an org admin may still be using a license if they have started a backup that was moved to cold storage.  Archives in cold storage are kept for one calendar year.  If an org admin wishes to free up the license, the archive in the cold storage must be deleted.

To delete archives in cold storage:

  1. Log into the administration console at z.umn.edu/backup
  2. Search for the deleted user in the search bar
  3. Select the gear setting icon > View Archives
  4. Note the archive numbers
  5. Go to Destination > Store Points
  6. Click on the value in the "Cold" column next to a store point
  7. Locate and select the archive you want to delete
  8. Click the gear settings icon > Purge archive
