Enterprise-Grade Data Protection

Accessing Gemini with your University account means your data will be handled with the highest level of security and privacy.

Here’s how your data is protected:

  • Your data stays your data. Google will not sell your data or use it to target any ads.
    • Your data used in Gemini stays within the University of Minnesota and is not available outside of our system.
  • Your interaction data is not used to train Google’s language models.
  • Your interaction data is not accessible or reviewed by any humans at Google.
  • Your interaction data is not made available to other users within or outside of the University of Minnesota.
  • Gemini will only access the content within your Workspace that you have permission to see. This helps prevent accidental exposure of sensitive information.

Logging into Gemini with a personal (non-University) Google account will not have the same data protections and is not approved for institutional data. When using Gemini, you can check that you are signed in using your University account by hovering over the account avatar in the top right corner and verifying it is your University account and not your personal Google account.
