Publishing mobile applications under the University’s organizational Apple accounts
Overview
The Apple Developer program is the gateway for faculty, staff and graduate students to publish mobile apps to the University of Minnesota’s official accounts on the App Store. These apps range from campus life apps geared towards students, to health and educational apps for the public, to apps integral to clinical research studies.
Account Types
The University of Minnesota holds two developer accounts with Apple to publish Apps
under the organizational name:
- A standard developer account to be used for Apple’s App Store and macOS applications publishing
- An enterprise developer account to be used with internally published iOS apps
Highlights
- Apps will be published under the “Regents of the University of Minnesota” name.
- Apps published under the Regents name must adhere to University policies and branding standards.
- Apple provides guidance and best practices for mobile app development.
Getting Started
Security Review
Contact University Information Security by sending a message to [email protected] to review the app concept and high-level architectures prior to developing the app to ensure compliance with University policy, especially in the context of University data and integrations with University systems.
Note: UIS will not perform a code review for your app and you are responsible for implementing secure coding practices.
Legal and Licensing Considerations
Work with the Office of Technology Commercialization to ensure the proper agreements and licensing for the app are included. Email Sandipan Banerjee at [email protected]
Publishing Apps
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) serves as a technical administrator for these accounts with the capability and responsibility for inviting users and issuing the main signing certificates. Email [email protected] for these services.
Note: OIT cannot provide technical support for this service (i.e. creating or publishing applications). Software Licensing group can grant access to the Apple Developer Program, but any other support requests should be address directly to Apple.
