Overview

Service Gateway is a web-based application for departments to manage their own voice and data network resources. Department network administrators have the ability to manage certain aspects of their data network connections including IP address functions and network jacks. (Note: Jack functionality will be available in 2022.)

Why are we changing?

  • Service Gateway version 1 (SGv1) is at its end of life and its replacement, Service Gateway version 2 (SGv2) is now available.
  • The underlying technology for SGv1, Infoblox, is not compatible with the architecture built for SGv2. To ensure continuity of service, OIT will discontinue using Infoblox and transition to EfficientIP (EIP).

Transition Process

  • Administrators of each unit that uses SGv1 have been contacted and they will collaborate with the Data Network Services team to migrate their units to SGv2 before December 2021.

Timeline

  • Transitioning before December 2021 ensures that there will be no interruption in each unit’s ability to self-administer IP addresses and DNS names.

Difference between SGv1 and SGv2

The more modern interface of SGv2 will enable users to:

  • manage IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
  • make changes via REST API
  • continue to manage departmental IP addresses and DNS names

(Users will continue to be able to access SGv1 to view their jacks after the migration to SGv2.)

Any unit that does not participate in a consultation session and doesn’t schedule a migration will be unable to self-administer IPAM and DNS after December 2021.
