Grouper: Examples of Basis Groups

Basis Groups can be configured to cover any university record, with hundreds currently based on specific attributes.

Examples of Basis Groups

  1. Primary Roles
    • Employees: All active staff and faculty
    • Employment Status: 
      • Full-time vs. Part-time
      • Tenured vs. Adjunct faculty
      • Student Workers: Students who also have an "employee" flag in the HR system
    • Students: Anyone currently enrolled in classes
    • Other Affiliates: People who aren't employees but need access, like visiting researchers, contractors, or volunteers
    • Alumni: Past students who may still need access to email or transcripts
  2. University-Specific Units
    • By System Campus: Everyone at the Twin Cities, Morris, Duluth, Crookston, or Rochester Campus
    • By Collegiate or Administrative Unit: Everyone, for example, in the College of Science and Engineering, the College of Veterinary Medicine, Office of Information Technology (OIT)
    • By Department: Every staff member specifically in the "English" or "Economics" department, for example
  3. Academic Specifics 
    • By Academic Career: Undergraduates vs. Graduate students vs. Professional
    • By Academic Plan (Major): Everyone majoring in Computer Science, for example
      • Including Subplans: Honors program
    • By Enrollment Status: Currently enrolled vs. Future students 
    • By Class: English 1001, Math 2000, ACCT 2020, etc. 
    • By Class Year: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior (or by anticipated graduation year)
