When a team becomes aware that a committed Feature will not be completed by the end of a PI, the Scrum Coach should communicate with the Product Manager and Product Owner. Work may need to be reprioritized, or additional staff may be brought in to assist the team in completing work.
When a Feature is incomplete at the end of a PI, the Feature should be returned to the Backlog. The Product Manager will reprioritize the incomplete Feature and determine whether it needs to be moved to the next PI, postponed, or canceled.
Moving an In-Process Feature to the Backlog
- Navigate to the Team Backlog folder.
- Expand Teams, then Team Overview, then select Team Backlog.
- Select the current State for the Feature, then select Backlog from the list of states.
- Select the Feature name to open it.
- Add a Comment on the Details tab to explain the change.
Note: Features can also be dragged to the Backlog in the ART Kanban view.
Postponing or Canceling a Feature
The Product Manager or Product Owner may want to move a Feature all the way back to Funnel or Analyzing. If the work is no longer needed, a Feature may need to be canceled.
- Navigate to the Team Backlog folder.
- Expand Teams, then Team Overview, then select Team Backlog.
- Select the current State for the Feature, then select Funnel, Analyzing or Canceled from the list of states.
- Select the Feature name to open it.
- Add a Comment on the Details tab to explain the change.
Note: Features can also be dragged to the Funnel or to Canceled in the ART Kanban view.
