12-Button (ITE12) Telephone Guide: System Feature Codes

Although some phones offer special feature buttons, most of these features reside in the telephone system, independent of phone type. These "feature codes" are invoked using a switchhook/[FLASH] command in conjunction with dialpad entries, and may be used from almost any phone.

Abbreviated Dial

This feature creates a personal speed dial directory of frequently called internal or external numbers. Assign each frequently called number either a 1 or 2 digit reference code (from [0] - [9] or [0] [0] - [9] [9]) depending on class of service.

Store or Change a Number (Up to 24 Digits Long)

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Dial feature code [#] [4] [*].
  3. Dial reference [9] - [0]. Hear 1 beep.
  4. University Customers:
    • [8] + area code + number
  5. Fairview Customers:
    • [9] + area code + number
  6. Hear 2 beeps and hang up.
  7. Write # on abbreviated dial list.

Make Call Using Abbreviated Dial

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Dial the feature code [#] [4] + abbreviated reference code.

Anonymous Call Rejection

This feature blocks calls from callers who have their caller ID information suppressed. Callers with suppressed information will hear a message that says "The number you dialed does not accept blocked calls. Please unblock your number and dial again." Anonymous call rejection only works for calls from off-campus numbers. Please keep in mind that callers with unpublished or unlisted phone numbers will be blocked by this feature, as their caller information is suppressed.

  1. Dial [*] [7] [7] to activate anonymous call rejection.
  2. Dial [*] [8] [7] to turn off anonymous call rejection.

Automatic Recall (*69)

Automatic Recall stores the number of the last incoming call and will automatically dial that number for you.

Using Automatic Recall

  1. Dial [*] [6] [9].
  2. Follow the voice prompts to have the number dialed automatically.

Call Back/Message

Leave Call Back/Message on Busy/Unanswered Extension

The Call Back feature allows the telephone system to automatically call you back after the busy the campus phone number you dialed is idle. The telephone system cancels the call back if you do not answer your phone at the time it calls. A maximum of 10 Call Back/Messages are allowed per phone line, reorder tone is heard when all 10 messages are occupied.

Call Park (System Hold, Retrieve from Alternate Phone)

Park Call

  1. With the call on line, press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. Press [*] [9].
  3. Hear "Enter."
  4. When you hear "Park number___________," write down the number.
  5. Hang up.

Retrieve Parked Call

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Dial "Park number." The system retrieves the held call.

Call Pickup

Call Pickup is used to answer a call which is ringing on another phone within an assigned "Call Pickup Group". The ringing phone's call is retrieved by your phone. Attempting to pickup a call not in your pickup group results in reorder tone being heard.

Pickup Ringing Call

  1. When the line in the pickup group rings, dial code [#] [7].
  2. Dial the ringing phone number. The call is transferred to your line.

Pickup Held Call

Retrieve a call on hold at another group member extension:

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Dial code [#] [7].
  3. When you hear the confirmation tone, dial the number where call is held. The held call is retrieved.

Note: Call Pickup Extension" feature must be enabled to pick up held calls.

Caller ID Block

On a per-call basis, this feature temporarily blocks your Caller ID information from being sent when dialing off campus. It will NOT block your Caller ID if you dial a 5-digit extension on campus.

  • Dial [*] [6] [7] to activate caller ID block.

Conference

You can conference a total of 3 callers. Note: One member of the conference call must be on a University telephone to keep conference active.

Set up a Conference Call

  1. With the call on line, press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. Dial code [*] [1].
  3. When you hear the dial tone, dial the next phone number.
  4. Announce the conference and press switchhook/FLASH.
  5. Dial code [*] [1]. All calls are on line.

Place Conference Call on Hold

  1. Press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. Dial code [*] [4].
  3. Hang up. Another call may be placed.

Retrieve Held Conference Call

  1. Lift the handset and press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. Press [*] [4]. The call is retrieved.

Do Not Disturb

Activate Do Not Disturb

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Dial code [*] [6].
  3. When you hear the confirmation tone, hang up. The system will announce "Private" each time dial tone is obtained.

Deactivate Do Not Disturb

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Dial Code [#] [6].
  3. When you hear the confirmation tone, hang up.

Forward

Forward Your Calls

All calls are forwarded to an alternate number.

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Dial code [*] [3].
  3. When you hear the confirmation tone, dial destination number.
  4. When you hear the confirmation tone, hang up.

An incoming call rings one short ring, which alerts you that call forward is still active, then forward to the specified destination. The forwarding destination phone number is the only number which can place and transfer calls to the original phone number.

Cancel Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. When you hear "Forward," dial code [#] [3].
  3. When you hear the confirmation tone, hang up.

Note: Off campus call forwarding feature must be ordered.

Hold

Place Call on Hold

  1. With the call on line, press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. When you hear "Enter," dial code [*] [4]. The call is on hold.
  3. When you hear the dial tone, hang up or place another call.

Retrieve Held Call

  1. Lift handset.
  2. When you hear "Held," dial code [*] [4]. The call is retrieved.

Answer Call Waiting using Hold

  1. With the call on line, when you hear the call waiting tone (1 or 2 short rings), press switchook/FLASH.
  2. When you hear "Enter," dial code [*] [4]. The call is on hold.
  3. Hang up. The waiting call rings on your extension.
  4. Lift handset. The waiting call is on line.

Alternate Between Calls

  1. With the call on line, and the alternate call on hold, press switchook/FLASH.
  2. When you hear "Enter," dial code [*] [4].

Note: Only one caller may "call-wait" on one line. Subsequent callers receive a busy tone.

Redial

The telephone system stores the last off campus number dialed and allows that call to be redialed.

Redial Last Off Campus Call

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Dial code [#] [9]. The system dials the last off campus call.

Transfer

Calls may be transferred on or off campus. If the transfer destination phone number is busy or unanswered, the call will return to the transfer originator identified by priority ring. Transfers may be announced or unannounced.

Transfer on Campus

  1. With the call on line, press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. When you hear "Enter," dial code [*] [1]. The call is held.
  3. When you hear the dial tone, dial the 5 digit phone number.
  4. Announce transfer (optional).
  5. Hang up. The call is transferred.

Transfer Off Campus

  1. With the call on line, press switchhook/FLASH.
  2. When you hear "Enter," dial code [*] [1]. The call is held.
  3. When you hear the dial tone:
    • University Customers:
      • Dial [8] + phone number
    • Fairview Customers:
      • Dial [9] + phone number
  4. Announce transfer (optional).
  5. Hang up. The call is transferred.

Voicemail

Voicemail Access

  • University Customers:
    1. Lift handset.
    2. When you hear the dial tone, dial code [*] [5]. You will hear the voicemail prompt.
  • Fairview Customers:
    1. Lift handset.
    2. When you hear the dial tone, dial your assigned Fairview voicemail number. You will hear the voicemail prompt.

Note: University phones with voicemail light indication features do not work with the Fairview voicemail system. They do not light when voicemail is present.
