Starting February 1, 2018, when videos are uploaded to Kaltura in Moodle and Canvas, they are automatically captioned by computer using automatic speech recognition (ASR). Videos that have been captioned appear with the tag asr_caption_complete. If you prefer, you can upload your own custom captions.
Note: To edit the captions, you must be the video owner or a co-editor.
Uploading Custom Captions
Open a browser and navigate to Moodle or Canvas.
Navigate to your media:
Canvas: Click on one of your courses and select My Media in the course menu.
Moodle: Click on your name in the top right of the browser window and select My Kaltura Media from the drop-down menu.
Find the video you want to add a caption file to and click Edit (the pencil icon) located to the right of the video.
Click Captions under the video.
Click the X next to the English caption to delete it.
Click Delete in the popup box that appears.
Click Upload captions file. The "Upload a captions file" page appears.
Select your file and click Open.
Select the Language of the caption file.
Enter a Label for your captions. This text will appear in the CC menu of the player. Typically, you should use the captioned language as the label (e.g., English).
View your captions in the video:
Click the name of the video at the top of the window next to Edit.
In the video player, click the Closed Captions button to pick the caption track; text will appear over the player during video playback.
