Overview

Turnitin’s plagiarism prevention tool generates similarity reports with Canvas Assignments that show how much of a document is original, cited from other sources, or unoriginal. The University features two ways to integrate Turnitin plagiarism-checking technology into your Canvas Assignments:

Turnitin LTI 1.3 version

This tool allows you access to Turnitin’s full suite of evaluation tools, including Turnitin’s online grading tools (Feedback Studio) and peer review system (PeerMark). When using this tool, you create the assignment and your students submit to the assignment from within Canvas, but all use of rubrics, feedback tools, and scoring takes place in Turnitin.

Note: It is possible for you to take advantage of theTII LTI 1.3 version and use Canvas’ SpeedGrader by using a double submission workaround

Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) with Turnitin

CPF is for instructors who would like to receive a Turnitin similarity report on their student submissions while continuing to use Canvas’s built-in tools for rubrics, feedback, peer review, SpeedGrader and scoring.

Highlights

Turnitin LTI 1.3 version

  • Uses Turnitin GradeMark for grading, rubrics, and feedback tools (cannot use Canvas Speedgrader, rubrics, or feedback tools).
  • Similarity report available to launch from the Turnitin inbox (not available in Canvas SpeedGrader or Gradebook).
  • Only one file submission is allowed per assignment. If multiple files are submitted, they will be overwritten and considered to be the 'latest' submission. Only one similarity report at a time is generated for the assignment per student.

Canvas Plagiarism Framework (CPF) with Turnitin

  • Uses Canvas Speedgrader, rubrics, and feedback tools.
  • Similarity report is available to launch from Canvas SpeedGrader and indicated in the Canvas Gradebook.
  • Allows students to upload multiple files for an assignment submission. Each submission has its own Similarity report. All previous submissions will be retained and can be viewed through Canvas Speedgrader.
