Microsoft Project is a project management tool. It is available for the Windows platform only. It not available for MacOS.

Professional

Project Professional offers more robust capabilities, such as integration with Project Online, resource management across multiple projects and advanced reporting. Note that Project Online will be retiring in September 2026.

Standard

Designed for smaller teams or simpler projects that don't require advanced collaboration tools.

Getting Access

Access to software licensed by the University is based on University affiliation and sometimes the device on which the software is installed.

It is your responsibility to make sure you are using the software in accordance with the University's Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources policy and software terms and conditions, plus any vendor terms listed below.

License Details

Individual work computer licenses can be obtained through our Microsoft Select Plus agreement, currently being managed by CDW-G.

  1. Go to the UMarket site.
  2. Select the Shop Now button.
  3. Sign in with your UMN internet ID and password.
  4. Scroll to the Electronic Components; Computer Equipment, Software & Supplies section.
  5. Select the CDW-G icon.
  6. Select the PunchOut link.
  7. On the CDW-G/U Market Ordering Site, select Popular Microsoft Licensing on the left hand side of the screen.
  8. Select the Microsoft either icon that says Project.
  9. Select your license. Your license will be perpetual, meaning your department can use the software indefinitely (as long as it is still supported or the computers running it can still run it).
