The Experts and Communities content on the Technology Help website, identified by "experts-communities" in the URL path, is shared with the Atlas website (https://atlas.umn.edu). An example URL is https://it.umn.edu/experts-communities/folwell-users-group.

This content is not editable on the Technology Help website. You must go to the Atlas website to edit this content. Changes to the content are pushed nightly to the Technology Help website. Note: Not all Experts & Communities from Atlas are shared with the Technology Help website. Only those with the type "User Community Group" are shared.

Creating an Experts & Communities page in Atlas

Use case

Use the Experts & Communities content type to create pages for community groups and experts that would be of interest to those who use technology at the University for their work or studies. 

Creating an Experts & Communities page

  1. Sign in to the Atlas Drupal website
  2. In the top menu, hover over Content then Add content and select IT Community Group.
  3. Fill in the content fields specified below (IT Community Group page template)
  4. Select the Categories tab and from the Portfolio Communities Type menu select User Community Group. (Note: the User Community Group is the only type that is synced to the Technology Help Website.)
  5. To publish the page, check the box next to Published and select Save
    • To save the page as a draft to publish later, leave the box unchecked and select Save

IT Community Group page template

The following are content fields you will encounter while creating an IT Community Group page in the Atlas website. 

  • Title: Typically, you will enter the name of the Community Group or the Expert.
  • Body: Add a description of the group or expert.
  • Header Tab - Short Description: The header short description displays in the header. Enter additional contextual information if the title of the group or expert is not clear by itself (optional).
  • Categories Tab - Portfolio Communities Type: In order to sync this group to the Technology Help website you must select the User Community Group type. All other fields on this tab are optional.
  • Links tab - External Link: Enter a link that the user can click on to get more information on the group or expert. All other fields on this tab are optional.

Editing an Experts & Communities page in Atlas

To edit an Experts & Communities page in Atlas, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the Atlas Drupal website
  2. Select Content. The Content page will open.

  3. Type your search term into the Title field. 
    • (Optional) Use the Content type drop-down to filter results by content type.
      Note: in Atlas the Experts & Communities pages use the IT Community Group content type.
  4. Select Filter.

  5. In the search result, locate the page you want to edit and, in the Operations column, select the Edit button.

  6. Once you have finished making your changes, select the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Note: The changes made in the Atlas website will publish overnight to the Technology Help Website.
