Kaltura: Use Chapters to Navigate Within Videos

When specific media (video/audio) recordings in Kaltura are set up to include chapters, viewers can view and search the chapter menu (like a table of contents) to find and jump to specific points in that recording.

Viewing and Searching Chapters in Kaltura Media/Videos

  1. When a recording in Kaltura contains chapters, select the ≡(Chapters) "hamburger" button in the upper left.

  2. With the Chapters menu expanded you can:
    • Select a chapter to jump to that point in the recording. The time you will jump to is displayed in the lower left, and the duration of the chapter appears in the upper right.
    • Enter text into the Search box to find words that appear within chapter contents.

Adding and Editing Chapters for Media in Kaltura

Media owners and co-editors can add and edit chapters in their media in Kaltura:

  1. Go to My Media using one of these two options:
    • Log in to Canvas, then from the Account menu, select My Media (Kaltura)
    • Log in to MediaSpace
  2. On the My Media page, locate the media/video you are interested in, then to the right select Edit (pencil icon ).

Creating and Editing Slides

Slides are a subset of the chaptering functionality in Kaltura. You can import PPT, PPTX, and PDF documents to act as slide contents, then move the cue points to align the slide/chapter content with your videos.
