Opt-In Alumni Email Account

For a limited time, the University of Minnesota is offering an alumni.umn.edu email account (Gmail and contacts only) to people who had the expectation of continued access to their University of Minnesota email account after they graduate or retire.

Eligibility

  • People who graduated from the University of Minnesota before June 1, 2024
  • Retired from the University before June 1, 2024
  • Membership in various organizations that offered the expectation of email access including Lifetime memberships from the University of Minnesota Alumni Association and the University of Minnesota Retirees Association.
  • Please Note: People who graduated from the University and are current faculty, staff or students have active Google Workspace accounts and are not eligible to create the alumni email account.

About Alumni Accounts

University of Minnesota alumni accounts offer Gmail and contacts and provide 5GB of storage. Other Google Workspace applications such as Drive, YouTube, Jamboard, etc. are not included.

To enroll, you will need to provide a non-umn alternate email address. This is required because it will enable you to recover your alumni email account password. If you do not already have a non-UMN email account, you must create one before you attempt to create an alumni account. Any active non-umn email account is acceptable. It does not need to be a Gmail account.

Alumni accounts serve the University's goal of improved security because they are not connected to other University technologies or services. Standard University of Minnesota Gmail accounts are integrated with technologies and services.

Enrollment

If you are eligible to enroll in an alumni email account, you should have received an email with an enrollment link and instructions.

If you are not eligible, after you click the enrollment link you will see a webpage stating "Account Not Eligible."
