Audience: Media owners and co-editors in Kaltura in Canvas and Kaltura MediaSpace
Media uploaded to Kaltura is automatically optimized for viewing on any device. This results in each media item in Kaltura having multiple "flavors." Follow the steps below to view and manage flavors for your media. You can also download a copy of each flavor, so this option replaces the Media Hub video converter, which will be shut down on May 31, 2023.
Viewing, Downloading, and Managing Flavors for Kaltura Media/Videos
- Go to My Media using one of these two options:
- Log in to Canvas, then from the Account menu, select My Media (Kaltura)
- Log in to MediaSpace
- On the My Media page, locate the media/video you are interested in, then to the right select Edit (pencil icon
). - Select the Flavors tab.
- In the table that appears, each line represents an available flavor type:
- Flavors that have Status = READY can be downloaded by selecting Flavor Actions, then Download.
- Flavors that have Status = NOT_APPLICABLE or blank (no value) do not exist. These flavors can be processed manually by selecting Flavor Actions, then Convert.
- Notes:
- Converting new flavors is generally not necessary and is an option if you need to download different sizes of media in Kaltura.
- After you select Convert, it will take some time for the new Flavor to be processed.
- You may need to reload the page and revisit the Flavors tab to download the new Flavor.
- In some cases, the Source flavor will not be available due to flavor optimization. This is expected, and attempts to Convert the Source flavor will fail.
