Kaltura: Set Publishing Schedule for Media

Kaltura media owners and co-editors can set a publishing schedule so that viewers can only access media recordings within a specific time frame.

Setting a Publishing Schedule for Media in Kaltura

  1. Go to My Media using one of these two options:
    • Log in to Canvas, then from the Account menu, select My Media (Kaltura).
    • Log in to MediaSpace.
  2. On the My Media page, locate the media/video you are interested in, then go the right and select Edit (pencil icon ).
  3. In the Details tab, select Specific Time Frame as the Publishing Schedule. Fields for dates, times, and timezone appear.

  4. Enter values and select Save.

Notes: 

  • When the publishing start/end time is reached, it can take 10+ minutes for the media to be made available or unavailable to viewers in Kaltura in Canvas or MediaSpace.
  • Publishing Schedule settings made to a recording in Kaltura in Canvas apply to the recording in MediaSpace and the other way around. 

Embedding Media in Canvas (Optional)

  1. Navigate to your Canvas course and follow the steps to Embed Media Already Uploaded to Your Kaltura My Media Library
  2. Save and publish the page or assignment.
    • Because you have rights to the media, it will appear to you as normal. However, your students will see a message that reads, "Scheduling Status: This page is currently not available as it is out of the scheduling timeframe. Please contact the content owner for more information about the page availability." You can verify by using Student View in your Canvas course.

How Media with Publishing Schedules Behave in the Canvas Course Media Gallery

If you publish a recording in the Media Gallery and it is outside of its publishing date/time range, the recording will not appear in the Media Gallery. 

Filtering Media By Publishing Status as an Owner or Co-Editor

  1. Go to My Media using one of these two options:
    • Log in to Canvas, then from the Account menu, select My Media (Kaltura).
    • Log in to MediaSpace.
  2. Select Filters >
  3. Under Scheduling, All Availabilities is checked by default. Other options:
    • Select Future Scheduling to show your recordings will be published for viewing in the future.
    • Select Available Now to show your recordings are currently viewable where they are published.
    • Select Past Scheduling to show your recordings were previously viewable in their published locations, but their publishing date has passed.
