Drupal Lite 8, 9: Add a New Term to an Existing Set of Tags (aka Vocabulary)

This article applies to Drupal Lite 8 and 9.

Vocabularies include terms. Terms add organizational data to pages and uploaded files, often referred to as metadata.

This is the second of three tasks to Create a New Set of Tags (aka Vocabulary).

Additionally, your role in Drupal may not have the proper permissions to complete the task. Contact your site administrator for additional information.


  1. Select Structure in the Administrator toolbar.
  2. Select Taxonomy.
  3. Select the dropdown arrow for the vocabulary you want to add a term.
    • Select Add Term.
  4. Enter a title in the Name field (required).
  5. Select Save. The "Created new term" message will appear.
