Applying Ongoing Accommodations

  1. From the Moderate window click the pencil icon in the Accommodation column for the student you want to apply course wide accommodations.Moderate page with student name search and a list of all the students in the course. Each student row has the columns: attempts, score, time, log, accommodation and a Moderate button.

  2. In the student popup select the type of accommodation you would like to apply from the drop down menu.

  • None
  • Give additional time: Allows the instructor to specify additional hours or minutes that should be applied to the student's assessments, course wide.
  • Remove time limit (unlimited): Allows the instructor to permit the student to take unlimited time on each assessment, course wide.
  • Time limit Multiplier: Allows the instructor to permit the student to take a multiplier of the default course duration specified in the quiz settings. For example, if the default course duration was set to 60 minutes and the Time limit Multiplier was set to 1.50 for student John Smith, then John Smith would be allowed 90 minutes to complete the course assessments.

A popup displaying the student name at the top and a drop down menu containing Give additional time, Remove time limit (unlimited) and Time limit Multiplier.

Note: The course wide, student specific, accommodations only apply to New Quizzes. A Classic Quiz would not be influenced by this setting. For more information on the difference between new quizzes and classic quizzes please visit Canvas: Understand Classic Quizzes vs. New Quizzes.
