Signing up for your University of Minnesota Wolfram Alpha Pro account

  1. Create a Wolfram account if you don't already have one.
    1. Go to Wolfram and click Create One located next to "Don't have a Wolfram ID?".
    2. Fill out the form using your UMN email and click Create Wolfram ID.
    3. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID.
  2. If you already have a paid subscription for Wolfram Alpha Pro, you should cancel your subscription before moving on to step 3.
    1. You can cancel by clicking Account in the sidebar of any result page, then click the Cancel button next to the subscription you would like to cancel.
  3. Request access to Wolfram Alpha Pro.
    1. Fill out the request access form.
      1. After filling out the above access request form you will see a notice that you should check your email. This can take up to 5 minutes to arrive. Instead of waiting for the email you can go on to the next step.
    2. Then go to Wolfram Alpha and sign in using the email associated with your UMN Wolfram account.
    3. You might need to sign out and sign back in to fully activate Wolfram Alpha Pro.

Note: The search page currently does not say Pro. However, once you perform a search and are directed to your results page, you will see that you are within the Pro version. Additionally, the four icons that appear below the search bar are usable. In the non-Pro version, those icons direct you to upgrade to Pro.

Re-Validating

Wolfram Alpha Pro subscriptions require annual re-validation in the spring. This process is completed by clicking the URL in the re-validation email sent by Wolfram to your UMN email address. This link must be clicked to extend access to Wolfram Alpha Pro for the upcoming year.

If you need this re-validation email to be sent again, you can trigger the email again with the following steps:

  1. Go to the User Portal and log in.
  2. Under the My Products & Services tab, click Request Extension.
  3. After clicking this link, it may take up to 5 minutes for your access to be updated.
