This article details how to add and update contacts in the Clearspan Webex Teams (formerly Webex Engage) application. Webex Teams is the application used for accessing the Voice over IP (VoIP) softphone system.
After creating a contact, to call your contact you can double click on the number in Contacts and your communicator will automatically dial the line.
Note: VoIP callers should be aware of certain restrictions to 911 calls. Visit z.umn.edu/voip911 for more information.

Creating a New Contact
- Select the Make a call or add a contact button
in the toolbar.
- In the drop-down menu, select Add a contact. An Add a Contact window will appear.
- If you have already made a call to or received a call from the person:
- You can use the Add people by name or email textbox to search for the person. Select their name from the auto-fill options.
- Select Add

- If you have not previously made or received a call from the person:
- Select Create a custom contact.
- Select Create a custom contact.
- If you have already made a call to or received a call from the person:
- Fill out the contact's information.
- Note: Display name and Contact group are required fields. The Display name field will autofill what's in the First name and Last name fields but you can type in a new Display name if you want to override the autofill. The Contact group defaults to Other contacts.
- Click Save.
Adding a Contact from Call History
- Click the Calling button
in the left navigation menu.
- Right click on the name/number of the person you want to add as a contact. This opens a drop-down.
- Select Create new contact to create a new contact.
- Select Add to existing contact to add the phone number to a previously created contact
- Select Add to existing contact to add the phone number to a previously created contact
Updating a Contact
- Click the Contacts button
in the left navigation menu.
- Expand the drop-down for the group the contact is in.
- In this example, the Other contacts group is expanded.
- In this example, the Other contacts group is expanded.
- Hover your mouse over the contact you wish to edit, and select the More information button
. A window will appear with the contact's profile information.
- Click the pencil icon
to edit the contact.
- When you are finished making edits, click Save.
