Google Jamboard, a collaborative whiteboard tool included in Google Workspace, is being retired. Here's what you need to know:

Key Dates

  • Starting October 1, 2024: The Jamboard app will become view-only. You’ll no longer be able to create new or edit existing Jams on any platform, including the web, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Jamboard devices.
  • After December 31, 2024: Jamboard fully retires. You’ll no longer be able to access the Jamboard app or your Jam files.

Recommended Actions

Zoom Whiteboard is an alternative solution that works similarly to Jamboard and is currently available to the University community. Learn how to use Zoom Whiteboard

Some other actions we recommend taking include:

  • Download Jam files as PDFs: You can go to jamboard.google.com and download any files you want to keep.
  • Recreate Jams in Zoom Whiteboard: There isn’t a process for converting Jams into Zoom Whiteboards, so you will need to manually recreate Jams as Whiteboards.
  • Update course materials (for faculty and instructors): Replace any references to Jamboard with information about Zoom Whiteboard or alternative solutions.

Note about using other apps: While Zoom Whiteboard is the recommended alternative, you may export Jam files to a different whiteboard application like Lucid, Miro, or Figma. These tools are recommended by Google but are not widely licensed at the University. Reach out to your local IT, or contact Technology Help to explore other solutions available to you.
