Digital Content: Create a Sender Profile in Salesforce

You can create a sender profile in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SMC) to designate who a message should come from and what email address should display and receive replies.

Note: These steps outline the process followed by the Digital Content Communicators team in OIT. All other teams should refer to relevant instructions for their specific processes.

Creating a Sender Profile

A Sender Profile defines who your message is from when sending an email using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SMC).

  1. Open Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  2. Hover over Email Studio, then select Email.
  3. From the top menu, select Admin.
  4. From the left menu under Send Management, select Sender Profiles.
    • Expand Send Management if it isn't already expanded.
  5. Select Create.

Specifying Properties

  1. Find the Properties section.
  2. Enter a name for the sender profile in the Name field.
    • Although this name might be the same as the From Name (below), email recipients will not see the name written here.

Entering Sender Information

  1. Find the Sender Information section.
  2. Select Use the specified information:
  3. Enter a name and email address in the From Name: and From Email: fields.
    • In the From Email: field, use @ecommunications2.umn.edu instead of @umn.edu to ensure emails sent using that profile are deliverable.
    • This is the name and address that the message appears to be from in the recipient's inbox.
  4. Move your cursor just to the right of the Verify box and click.
  5. The screen should reload and the box should say Verified.

Choosing Custom Reply Mail Management Settings

If your sender information is different from the email address that responses will go to, follow the steps in this section.

Example: The email Sender is a Service Owner, but replies will need to go to your group.

  1. Find the Custom Reply Mail Management Settings section.
  2. Check Use custom settings below.
  3. Under Forward to: select Use specified information.
  4. Enter a Name and Address for where replies to the email should be sent.
    • This can be, and usually is, different than the Sender Information From Name and From Email.
  5. Select Save.
    • The page should refresh and a green banner should appear.
    • An External Key will be automatically created and does not need to be modified.
