WebEx: What's Coming 33.4
Cisco regularly updates WebEx with new features and bug fixes. As upcoming versions are added to the roadmap, this article will document notable updates planned for the various WebEx applications used at the University. The next upgrade is anticipated to occur in September 2018.
Cisco Webex Meetings
Optimized First Time Mobile Join Flow
First-time Webex Meetings mobile users now see a clickable audio meeting link on a base set of their Meetings invitations. This provides a quicker way to join the meeting without having to install the mobile app.
Meeting invitations with the clickable link are as follows:
- MC MeetingInfo For Attendee(Productivity Tools)
- Invitation to a Meeting in Progress_PR(Productivity Tools)
- MC MeetingInfo For Attendee
- Meeting Invitation
- Updated Meeting Invitation
- Meeting Rescheduled
- Invitation to a Meeting in Progress
iOS attendees (not hosts) bypass the access code entry, as an added benefit. Android does not have this ability yet.
Better Content Share Quality for Skype for Business Users
With this release, content sharing for Microsoft Skype for Business users is enhanced to be clearer.
Cisco Webex Meetings Suite
Change in the Webex Installation Folder (Windows Only)
There are potential security concerns about installing the Webex Meetings apps in the Program Data folder, especially on shared computers. Beginning this release, all Webex Meeting apps and binaries will be removed from the Program Data folder and installed into the Program Files folder.
This change is automatic when users start or join a meeting on the WBS33.4 site.
Warning Message for Firefox Versions Earlier than 52
Although Webex has not supported Firefox versions earlier than 52 for some time, with this release, users of these versions of Firefox now receive a standard warning that the version is no longer supported.
Cisco Webex Meetings, Events, and Training
Cisco Webex Meetings Extension for Safari 12 and Later
With the upcoming deprecation by Apple of the NPAPI plugin, Webex has created the new Cisco Webex Meetings extension for Safari version 12 and later.
This provides users with a brand new first time meeting join experience on the Safari version 12 and later browser. Users are prompted when they join the site to install the extension.
My Files Deprecation
All UCF/My Files functionality is disabled and removed from all sites, starting with this release. “My Recordings” functionality will continue to exist, with no plans for deprecation.
Users must download any files they want to preserve prior to the WBS 33.4 release being applied to their site.
Mac 64-bit Support
The Webex Desktop App on Mac now supports 64-bit, complying with the new and future macOS versions.
Cisco Webex Web App 4.1
Optimization for High-Resolution Displays
The buttons and iconography in the web app have been optimized to scale well on high-resolution displays and larger zoom settings.
Improved Video Thumbnail Display Order
The web app now shows the most recent active speakers on the first page of the video thumbnail strip. This is to maintain feature parity with the desktop app.
Support for the “Manage Panels” Configuration
The web app now hides and displays panels accordingly, for hosts and presenters who use the “Manage panels” options in the desktop app to allow or remove panels.
Cisco Webex Meetings Mobile 11.2 (Android)
Mobile First Time Experience Join Flow Improvements
First-time Android mobile users who cross launch from their meeting invitation are offered the option to install the Meetings app on their device.
If they choose to install the Meetings app, they are taken directly to the meeting without having to re-locate their original meeting and select it again to join.
Grid View Support for Android Tablets
Android tablet users are now able to see a grid view layout, with up to 6 participants at a time.
This provides feature parity with Android smartphones.
Polling Support in Webex Meetings
Android mobile users are now able to participate in polling during meeting in Webex Meetings.
Official Support for Android P
Webex Meetings Mobile now officially supports the new Android P version 11.2 operating system.
Native Google Search Improvements
Android mobile users can now use their native Google search to locate scheduled Webex meetings and recordings, using meeting title or host name.
Avatar Upload for Tablets
Android mobile tablet users can now upload and update their avatars directly from their mobile app.
Host Recording List Improvements
Recordings list users on Android are now able to search for their recordings, and delete the recordings that they no longer need.
Cisco Webex Meetings Mobile 11.2 (iOS)
Ford Applink Official Initial Release
Ford drivers with Sync 3 are now able to view their meeting list, launch and join their Personal Room or upcoming scheduled meeting, and view key meeting information all directly from their car dashboards. This can all be done with steering wheel-activated voice commands or by tapping the dashboard directly.
Personal Room History Improvements
iOS users who have opted to retain their Personal Room history are now able to access their history from multiple sites.
Video Support for Webex Events Panelists
iOS users who attend a session as an Events panelist are now able to turn on their video, if the event host allows that panelist to be displayed on video in the session.
